An action packed American Music Awards aired last night with a stunning act from Lady Gaga (as usual), a controversial performance from Adam Lambert (to be expected), and a comeback from Jennifer Lopez (she’s throwing on her Louboutins).
Before we get to those performances, a quick summary of the night. Taylor Swift continued her reign of 2009 but was not in attendance, picking up 5 awards (via satellite) including: Artist of the Year, Favorite Female Artist in the Pop/Rock and Country categories, as well as Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist of the Year. The late King of Pop, Michael Jackson was recognized in four categories which include Favorite Male Artist in the pop/rock and soul/R&B categories.
Some of the other performances included: Janet Jackson, Shakira, Mary J. Blige, Keith Urban, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, Eminem, Black Eyed Peas, Carrie Underwood and Rihanna. But, as aforementioned, the memorable performances were from Gaga, JLo, and Glambert.

Jennifer Lopez – Louboutins
Jennifer Lopez makes her comeback in “The Main Event” with a boxing themed set up, performing her new single Louboutins. I didn’t hate the song or the performance. This song is more along the lines of the JLo that I like, as opposed to some of her slower stuff. She takes a mini little tumble part way through her performance, but works it into her routine like a pro. JLo’s new album becomes available in January. Don’t be fooled by the Louboutins that she’s got…she’s still, she’s still Jenny From The Block. Check it out!

Adam Lambert – For Your Entertainment
Glambert performs his single For Your Entertainment with an S&M themed set & entourage, that looks as though it could be inspired by Britney’s terrible MTV Awards performance of Gimme More, except a good version of that. Of course, the ladies on The View chatted about the controversial performance this morning. The questionable aspects of the performance were of course Adam pretending to get head from one of the dancers, and at one point sharing an extended kiss with his piano player.

Lady Gaga – Bad Romance and Speechless
Never disappointing, Gaga and her extraordinary costume, moves, set, and voice made for a memorable performance last night. She wore a mask and white costume, embedded with flashing lights as she performed Bad Romance, then smashed her way into a glass box, surrounded by flames, where her piano resided and she then performed Speechless, intermittently smashing bottles onto the piano.

Here’s the problem for people like J-LO who insist on lip synching during an awards show… you look like a tool when Gaga, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert etc are all belting it out live. Her performance was the worst.
Glambert’s was out of control. Loved it.

I didn’t watch the show but I did watch the 3 clips on this post…. really J.Lo? Louboutins? It reeks of either product placement or she’s kissing Louboutins ass for more shoes.
I didn’t like Lambert’s peformance either… it felt like a bad version of a PussycatDolls video. The music was thin and although he is a good singer… the vocals felt thin.
GaGa on the other hand is always over the top and definitely entertaining to watch.

I can’t believe Taylor Swift cleaned out. Probably since that Kanye West incident, people were just like, “Hey! Let’s shove all the awards in her direction just to spite him!”

I wasn’t surprised Taylor picked up so many awards considering the winners are voted on by the public, which probably is vastly made up of teeny-bopping girls. Good for her, even though I can’t stand her.
As for Adam Lambert’s performance… Call me a prude but I thought it was in bad taste. I can see where he’s coming from, trying to make a point and all how female performers have done similar things on state, and that if ABC censored the west-coast feed (which they did) that it’d be discrimination. But I’m questioning if his performance was the most prudent approach to making such a point. My concern is that such a quickly emerging openly gay artist is giving a shallow representation of the gay community to America. Maxwell singing a gay love ballad probably would have been better :P
P.S. Love Lady Gaga

Okay Adam Lambert, we get it, you want to be sexual and edgy.
That was all I was thinking throughout that performance. That was THE most pathetic attempt at trying to shock the audience I have ever seen. Lambert is such a tryhard it actually hurt to watch it. The difference between artists like Beyonce, Gaga or Britney and Lambert is that they came to this edgy image on their own terms and developed this image and as sex-based as some of their songs/outfits/performances can be, they aren’t so forceful. Lambert has said in almost every interview that ‘this is who I am’.. ‘I’m unflinching’ blah blah blah. He’s a try hard, end of story.
