ABC Renews ‘American Idol’ With Current Judges Intact

The return of American Idol hasn’t given ABC the same ratings it delivered when it aired on FOX, but they’re good enough for the alphabet network. American Idol has been renewed for a second season, 17th overall. The current judging lineup of Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie is remaining intact.

“We knew that American Idol on ABC would unleash an opportunity for singers from all walks of life to realize their dreams and that these incredible contestants would have America rooting for their success,” said Channing Dungey, president, ABC Entertainment. “I am thrilled that Katy, Luke, Lionel and Ryan will be back to once again embark on this Idol journey with us to discover the next crop of inspiring talent.”

The singing competition has been averaging 7.6 million total viewers and 1.6 demo rating. Since the live shows began, the show has seen a ratings uptick. It’s ABC’s biggest audience and demo number during that Sunday two-hour slot in four years and three years respectively.
