Earlier today, I showcased this season’s rumored TOP 12 boys. Now it’s time to highlight the ladies. Apparently, this season is the ladies’ to lose. Normally, I don’t buy into all the hype generated by the IDOL PR machine, but after checking the girls various websites… I WAS IMPRESSED.
After last year’s male-dominated season, I’m ready for some ladies to takeover the competition. As with a lot of gay men, I find myself naturally gravitated towards female singers- maybe it’s my inner Diva wanting to come out.
As with the last post, DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER, if you want to watch the drama unfold for yourself. But if you’re like me and a nosy little snot, keep on reading.
Lacey Brown: Amarillo, Texas
Comment: She made it to Hollywood week in season 8 before getting cut. Cool tone and vibe but don’t think she’s strong enough to make the Top 12.
Comment: Christmas came early for Michelle as she was one of the contestants to receive early exposure through the Idol season 9 promos. She gives me a Leona Lewis type of vibe. Me likey so far. This could be my girl for the season.
Comment: LOVE LOVE LOVE HER. Wow, I’m only on girl number three and I already have two favorites. Be sure to check out the first link where she sings “Almost Lover”. It’s perrrrrrrrfect.
Ashley Rodriguez:Boston, Massachusetts
Comment: Okay, now this is getting out of hand. I’m now three for four. If you read my recap from the Boston auditions, you’re already aware that I love this Latina songstress. Not only beautiful, but she possesses an awesome vocal instrument.
Lillian “Lilly” Scott: Denver/Boulder, Colorado
Comment: She’s got this jazzy bluesy Duffy vibe going on. I’m kinda feeling it. This could be what Megan Corkery should’ve been. Quirky but GOOD.
Katie Stevens: Boston, Massachusetts
Comment: She wasn’t my favorite 16-year old from the Boston auditions, but she seemed to strike a chord with a lot of other viewers. Her YouTube videos garnered a lot of hits. Maybe this is why the producers put her through. Could she be Idol’s brunette Taylor Swift? It’s a shame her videos got taken down, as her rendition of Colbie Callait’s “Bubbly” was pretty awesome.
Haeley Vaughn: Fort Collins, Colorado
Comment: She’s another 16-year old. Let’s hope she’s more like Paris Bennett (Idol 5) instead of Jasmine Murray (Idol 9). From what I heard, she’s got potential. As seen with many other Idol wannabes, having a great voice doesn’t guarantee you squat. You need personality and stage presence.
Janell Wheeler:Orlando, Florida
Comment: Another stunner with a great sound. Why is it always easier to find a pretty girl with a good voice than it is to find a hot guy who can sing? Listen to “I Like Me” on her MySpace. You won’t be disappointed. She has a strong chance of making the Top 12 of Season 9.
Yes, that’s only eight singers. Unlike with the boys, the full list of the girls hasn’t been spoiled as of press time. With such a strong bunch already, I’m a little scared to see the remaining four. I might have to bump out a few favorites from this list above.
Which ones are you favorite thus far? Do you think Idol has another superstar like Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson within their midst?
