The auditions for American Idol Season 13 begin today in Boston. It’s only fitting FOX officially unveil its latest judging panel line-up. Question is… can they save the show?

Initially, music producer Dr. Luke was to fill the third slot, but due to a professional conflict of interest, he had to step down. This sent the show’s producers into a panic trying to find a last-minute replacement. Enter Harry Connick, Jr. Personally, I’m not sure why it took this long to bring him on board. He’s always been a great mentor and never been afraid to mince words with the other judges, but not in a Mariah Carey-Nicki Minaj uncomfortable way.

Connick Jr. joins Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban on the panel. Lopez makes a return after a season break, while Urban is the only returning member from last year’s lineup. Randy Jackson also returns, but in a mentor role. He takes over for a departing Jimmy Iovine. Just when I thought I was finally rid of Jackson, he returns. I just hope Idol doesn’t dedicate too much time for his input. I’m so over him. Check out what everyone, including Ryan Seacrest have to say about the upcoming season below.

“I have always been a huge fan of AMERICAN IDOL and really enjoyed my time as a mentor on the show,” said Harry Connick, Jr. “And I am honored that they’ve asked me to be a judge this season. As an entertainer, I am truly excited to bring my perspective to AMERICAN IDOL, and to help emerging performers find their way.”

“Surprise, surprise! I am so happy to be back as part of this amazing show that started it all,” said Randy Jackson. “Season 1-3 is the place to be. The original talent show is back with a vengeance and ready to discover the best talent in America.”

“I think this season of IDOL is gonna be a blast,” said Keith Urban. ”New team, new energy and a whole new field of artists to be discovered and given a chance!”

“I couldn’t be prouder to be a part of the AMERICAN IDOL XIII family. Our new producers, judging panel and mentor are all fired up for this season,” said Ryan Seacrest. “I’ve already witnessed some amazingly talented contestants from around the country during our early auditions, cementing my belief that a new superstar is well within our sights.”
