“It’s the girls’ season to lose,” claimed Randy Jackson at the beginning of the show. I definitely agree with that sentiment, even though some of the ladies faltered tonight and didn’t live up to their potential. I blame their uninspired song choices for the poor showings. With exception to one, the rest were all ballads. If the girls were savvy, they would’ve picked an uptempo track to stand out in this talented group of contestants. With that said, there were a few standouts. In fact, I think four of five spots are pretty much sewn up. The last spot is a battle between three girls. Find out who below.

American Idol 12 – Top 10 Girls Ranked

10. Zoannette Johnson

Song: What’s Love Got To Do With It
Original Artist: Tina Turner

Last week’s performance was polarizing. Some loved it and some loathed it (myself included). There’s no debating this week’s trainwreck. Forgetting the words while wearing a heinous wig is inexcusable. Adios lady.

9. Adriana Latonio

Song: Stand Up For Love
Original Artist: Destiny’s Child

Wearing a pageant dress in Season 12 just doesn’t cut it. Perhaps, the earlier seasons but definitely not now. Also a misstep was picking a group song to perform. I fell asleep within the first ten seconds. Such a shame. I was rooting for her, but Adriana definitely doesn’t deserve to advance. I just hope Alaska doesn’t propel her like Hawaii did with Jasmine Trias back in Season 3.

8. Teena Torres

Song: Lost
Original Artist: Faith Hill

Firstly, props on picking a much better weave. Thumbs down for the too tight, too short, too revealing dress. This Camp Mariah alum wasn’t horrible, but it felt she was straining too much to reach those money notes. With far stronger vocalists around, she needed to hit a home run. Sadly, this was a double at best.

7. Breanna Steer

Song: Flaws And All
Original Artist: Beyonce

Personally, I thought Breanna did a great job with this Beyonce song. It was beautiful but a bit too understated. With her No. 2 slot placement and performing a track probably not too familiar with most viewers, she was most likely forgotten by the time voting started. Too bad. She’s a pretty girl with a decent voice.

6. Janelle Arthur

Song: If I Can Dream
Original Artist: Elvis Presley

I expected more from this poor man’s Carrie Underwood. Given her critique last week, I was surprised she didn’t pick an iconic track from a country female singer. That would’ve definitely rallied people to vote for her. With Kree Harrison performing spectacularly tonight, I think Janelle is S.O.L.

5. Aubrey Cleland

Song: Big Girls Don’t Cry
Original Artist: Fergie

It wasn’t my favorite vocal from her, but I think the praising from the judges might propel her into the Top 10. While I give her credit for picking a well known song, I just wished she had picked another track. This one was so 2008, so 2000 and late ;) With the right song, Aubrey could become a strong contender. She needs more WOW performances like her “Sweet Dreams” outing last week.

4. Amber Holcomb

Song: I Believe In You And Me
Original Artist: Whitney Houston

Between you and me, I didn’t understand all the hoopla surrounding her last performance. While not perfect, this Whitney Houston cover was much better. I felt much more connected with her. I agree with Keith Urban that there were too many runs. That said, the last few notes were spectacular. Side note: How adorable are those dimples?

3. Kree Harrison

Song: Stronger
Original Artist: Faith Hill

The next three are so close, it was hard to pick one over the other. Tonight, I officially fell in love with Kree. Up until now, I thought she was a bit milquetoast, but girlfriend showed serious personality during her critiques. An engaging sense of humor plus a killer voice is a recipe for an American Idol win. Just look at Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. With a bit of styling tips, Kree could usurp Angela Miller as the frontrunner.

2. Candice Glover

Song: Ordinary People
Original Artist: John Legend

Candice was a great choice to close out the show. She was practically flawless. Like Kree, Glover exuded personality tonight. She gave the right amount of sass and attitude during her performance. As good as she is, I feel she’s going to follow the Melinda Doolittle trajectory. Solid every week, but will fall just short.

1. Angie Miller

Song: Never Gone
Original Artist: Colton Dixon

The artist formerly known as Angela Miller (WTF was up with that), the 18-year-old proved why she’s the frontrunner. She returned to her wheelhouse by performing at the piano. Though not an original song this time, she covered a track from last year’s Colton Dixon. I had never heard of it, so for me… it was an original. As expected, she killed it. Chick is going to be tough to beat.

Top 10 Predictions

IMHO, I think Amber Holcomb, Kree Harrison, Candice Glover and Angie Miller have guaranteed spots in the Top 10. The fifth and final spot is a tight race between Janelle Arthur and Aubrey Cleland. I could see either taking it, but hoping Aubrey squeaks through. Of course, I could be all wrong and Adriana Latonio makes it because of all those Alaskan votes. Just as long as Zoanette doesn’t make it, I’ll be happy.

What did you think of the girls tonight? Did they live up to the hype? What was your favorite performance? Do you think a girl will win this year? Sound off below.
