The 52-year-old producer first revealed American Horror Story will take place in the future for the first time for Season 8. “It’s set in the near future,” says the producer. “It has nothing to do with anything you’ve ever seen before. It’s really chilling.” He clarified, “Not space.”
Not surprisingly, AHS mainstay Sarah Paulson will return for another round. She’ll be sporting a much different look than previous seasons. “Sarah Paulson is very excited about the dental appliances she will be wearing on the show,” teases Murphy.
Murphy also talked about AHS Season 9 during the Television Critics Association semi-annual press tour in Pasadena. He revealed it’ll most likely be the highly-anticipated Murder House/Coven crossover season. “We’re working on it, but it’s not going to be the next season,” he said. “Next season is season 8, and it’ll probably be the one after that. “We’ve already met about it and outlined it, but it won’t be next, because some of the people are not available.”
For those hoping that Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton are reprising their roles from Murder House, that could very well happen. “I want all of them. I want Dylan, and Connie and Jessica [Lange]. They’ve all said—Kathy Bates, too—everybody who is involved in the show has always said, ‘Yeah, that sounds like fun, let’s get the band back together again.’ So that is one of the reasons why the writing process of that season is taking longer because it’s literally 25 people’s schedules. But I’m hopeful they will all be back.”
