Ryan Murphy Snags ‘Dynasty’ Legend For ‘American Horror Story’ & Scraps Monica Lewinsky Season Of ‘American Crime Story’

It’s no secret that Ryan Murphy loves working with mature actresses. He’s on a personal crusade to create more roles for women, particularly those over the age of 40. The 52-year-old producer just snagged another living legend for one of his upcoming projects.

Murphy previously announced American Horror Story Season 8 would feature Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and the return of Kathy Bates. The latter briefly left the franchise to star in her Netflix pot comedy, Disjointed. Since the sitcom was canceled, Bates is back in the fold.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Ryan confirmed Dynasty diva Joan Collins is joining the cast. How fantastic is that? He also revealed he’s “interested” in Anjelica Huston.

With regards to American Crime Story, Murphy announced he’s scrapping his proposed season centered on Monica Lewinsky. Though he optioned Jeffrey Toobin’s 2000 best-seller, A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal that Nearly Brought Down a President more than a year ago, he’s had second thoughts. He even told this to Lewinsky herself when he bumped into her at a Hollywood party.

“I told her, ‘Nobody should tell your story but you, and it’s kind of gross if they do,'” Murphy recalls saying. ” ‘If you want to produce it with me, I would love that; but you should be the producer and you should make all the goddamn money.'”

What about the second season of Feud? Even though he teased a Prince Charles/Princess Diana season previously, he remained vague. “I’m still working on it,” he says. “And I don’t want to do anything unless I’m 100 percent sure.”

What do you think of Collins’ casting? Bummed the Lewinsky story won’t be an upcoming season of ACS? Weigh in below.
