American Crime Story Season 3 Will Focus On Gianni Versace Murder

american-crime-story-gianni-versaceFilming of American Crime Story Season 2 about Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath hasn’t even begun yet, but FX has already renewed the anthology for a third season. No real surprise there, given the first season of the show, People v. O.J. Simpson, won 10 Emmys.

Deadline reports the third season will explore the shocking assassination of legendary designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion. He was the fifth and final victim of serial killer Andrew Cunanan. The sociopath killed himself eight days later as the police were about to capture him in a house boat.

American Crime Story: Versace/Cunanan will be based on the book Vulgar Favors by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth, with Tom Rob Smith. Filming for it will occur simultaneously with the second installment, Katrina. It wasn’t originally planned that way, but network execs were so impressed with the script for Versace/Cunanan, they fast-tracked it.

With regards to casting, no one has been booked yet, but a certain A-list actress has been approached to play Donatella Versace.

OMG, who could it be? It’s hard not to imagine Maya Rudolph when speaking of Versace. Her SNL spoofs poking fun at the designer are epic.

Who do you think producers are eying for Donatella? Do you think Versace is a good subject for the third season? Weigh in below.
