Amanda Seyfried Officially Signs On For ‘Mamma Mia’ Sequel

Someone wants another trip to Greece 😉 I hope this means Meryl Streep is next.

Amanda Seyfried, who played Sophie Sheridan, in Mamma Mia will reprise her part for the upcoming sequel scheduled a decade after the original’s theatrical run. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! is set to arrive July 20, 2018. She’s the first to officially sign on for the project. Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Streep and the other major players are expected to return as well, if negotiations go well.

While the feature film adaptation earned mixed reviews, it did boffo box office business. It earned an estimated $600 million worldwide, almost 12 times its budget. Mamma Mia was based on the 1999 West End/2001 Broadway musical of the same name. The sequel will be written and directed by British filmmaker Ol Parker (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) and will feature ABBA songs not included in the original film, along with some reprised favorites.

Since Mamma Mia, Seyfried has starred in Dear John, Les Misérables, Lovelace, Ted 2, Red Riding Hood and Pan. The 31-year-old actress can next be seen in The Last Word with Shirley MacLaine, The Clapper co-starring Ed Helms and the upcoming action flick, Gringo.

Excited to have Seyfried back? Who do you think will officially join the sequel next? Sound off below.
