Alice Truly Is In Wonderland

For a third week in a row, “Alice in Wonderland” reigned supreme at cineplexes across the land. Down 45% from its previous total, the fantasy 3D picture grossed an estimated $34 million bringing its total box office haul to an impressive $265,000,000. In a surprise showing, the family friendly pic, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid” placed second with $21,800,000. It edged out the highly promoted “The Bounty Hunter” by a scant $800,000.

Though in third place, the R-rated romantic comedy’s opening weekend was in line with Butler’s previous openings. The other highly promoted new flick this weekend, was the Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning bio-pic, “The Runaways”. It placed out of the Top 10, but in its defense it only had a limited debut. While the top three movies were showing at over 3,000 theaters each, “The Runaways” showed in only 244 screens and score $804,000 in box office receipts.
