I’m a sucker for any artist covering a classic track. Even better when it’s someone taking on my beloved Janet Jackson. No wonder I love watching singing competition shows like “The Voice“, “American Idol” and “The X Factor“. In essence, that’s what each week is all about, right? Given that Alexandra Burke rose to fame by singing covers on UK’s “The X Factor”, it’s only naturally she go back to her roots while promoting her new single.
Burke won the fifth series of the UK reality show and delivered a successful debut album, titled “Overcome“, which spawned five Top 10 UK hits. The 23-year-old singer officially released “Elephant“, the lead cut from her upcoming sophomore effort just a few days ago. The single is receiving praise from her fans will most probably give the British singer another hit.
That being said, I’m not here to talk about “Elephant”, but rather an acoustic performance by Burke for SoulCulture TV. She decided to take on Janet Jackson’s signature ballad, “Let’s Wait Awhile” from her multi-platinum selling album, “Control“, released in 1986. Alexandra stays true to the song’s melody, but gives it a dose of her strong vocals. Her cover is technically a more masterfully powerful performance, but I prefer Janet’s quiet presence on the track. It stays more true to the song’s innocent message. Listen to Alexandra’s version below and see what you think.

Alexandra does a nice a job, a respectable tribute to a classic song and I’m sure that if JANET were to see this..she’d be smilin…took me back to a way better time when music and songs had structure and told a story, very nice

While I prefer Janet’s version, this is an amazing way to cover this song. She hit all the soft notes and provided her powerhouse vocals in some parts to make it her own! I’m impressed.
