Disney Finds Its Leads For Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Film

There were rumors that Disney was having difficulties finding the leads for its upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin. It appears, their long search is now over.

Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott have landed the highly-coveted roles of Aladdin and Jasmine respectively. They join previously announced Will Smith, who’s set to tackle the role of Genie. Guy Ritchie is directing the project which will use the 1992 animated film as source material. The classic Arabic folktales of One Thousand And One Nights will also serve as inspiration.

Massound hails from Canada but was born in Egypt. He’s a relative newcomer with roles in Amazon’s Jack Ryan, Nikita and Saving Hope. Scott is a 24-year-old English actress who was most recently scene as Kimberly Hart / Pink Ranger in Power Rangers. Her other acting credits include Terra Nova and Life Bites.

What do you think of the casting choices? Aesthetically speaking, they’re perfect. I can totally see them in these iconic roles. Here’s hoping they can carry a tune as well. Weigh in below.
