The Sports Stud I’ve chosen to put the spotlight on this week is Canadian Olympic sprint kayaker, Adam van Koeverden. This beefy Olympian is one of Canada’s top kayakers, having won a gold and a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics (gold in the K-1 500m and a bronze in the K-1 1000m) and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics (K-1 500m). Needless to say we can expect great things from this 28 year old at London 2012. Aside from competing, he was Canada’s flag bearer at the closing ceremonies in 2004, and at the opening ceremonies Beijing 2008.
He has done really well for himself. In addition to his medals, in 2004 he was awarded the Lou Marsh Trophy as Canada’s top athlete and he graduated in June 2007 from McMaster University as valedictorian of his class.
He’s a spectacular kayaker!
