Confessions Of A Self-Proclaimed “Cured Gay”

I truly feel bad for this guy. Aaron Barton, shown above, tells the story of how he has been cured of his gayness in this video testimonial for InFocusChurch.org. He talks about how coming out was one of the worst things he’s ever done. The video was first shown on March 6th, 2011 at In Focus Church in Evans, Georgia during a series called “Shhh: A Series On Secrets And Shame“.
The title of the particular “seminar” when this video was shown was called “Willful Sin“. The man leading the talk on that day is Pastor Brent Garrard . He goes on about homosexuality being a sin, then later introduces Barton’s video, saying his testimonial, “It’s the reason that I do what I do…It’s the reason that this church as the mission that it has…Sexual sin takes on many forms. All of them – sin.”

This is the seminar where the speaker talks about “sexual sin” and then halfway through, introduces the video you just watched. If you skip to about the 36:00 minute mark, he brings Aaron out in front of the live audience to introduce him. The crowd cheers…because he is no longer gay? Ugh.

This young man is sad to watch. He was lost before found the church to hold his hand and he is still lost. Visably unstable and over emotional, crying at the mere mention of his sinful past, living in his battlefield, I live on a street in an apartment and know in my heart that I love god and he loves me. No church or organization needs to hold my hand. SSSSSSSSSSSSSS every minute he mentions his buzz words that have been drilled into his vacant mind, visable in his empty gaze……Secrets…Shame….Sin……Secrets….Shame….Sin……..WHAT!
He said he was ignorant in the lifestyle he “chose” until he found the people who “love god”
How sad that it is now drilled in his head that only straight people love god…that only if he is straight god will love him back. I really don’t care if this one man is who he claims…or if he chooses a lifestyle or was born as he is. It is merely sad that he is propagating that god hates anyone who does not flock like a sheep into the firey hell of lost souls seeking shelter in the bible belt of fools. God is everywhere and he will love him when he sets himself free to listen with and open heart, and a free thinking mind.

I’m afraid that the only lie that this guy has bought into is that God wanted him to change. I’m afraid that the only deception is that he feels this is God’s path for his life. He says that it’s not possible to be “gay and Christian”… He’s wrong. I know hundreds of people passionately following Jesus Christ, living Christian lives as gay men and women. They are men and women who are liberated, free, and enable to better worship God as they truly are. I hope that this man does feel restored and that he truly is happy, but I’m afraid, like so many others, his sense of freedom comes from fitting himself into the box that the church has created and conforming himself to the misinterpretation of scripture that the fundamentalist church as led people to believe.

let’s not become Christophobes. Many gays (like me) are Christian and don’t like the way most gays talk about religious matters.
this Barton fellow is an ADULT who can make decisions for himself. this pastor is an ADULT and can believe whatever he wants.
If you’ve seen gays vile, over-the-top and hate-filled rhetoric about Michelle Bachmann and her husband over the last few days– I am talking about INVECTIVE almost as angry as racists–you can see why they would not allow comments on a video like this.
I am glad that most Homorazzi readers (and writers) are above that sort of thing.

Did anybody notice that when he was talking about how bad his life was before he was cured that there was an ominous music going on in the background.. almost like he was being haunted than all of a sudden he found God and this joyus music started playing?? its all propaganda to my ears.
God loves all his creations he doesnt differentiate among his people and who he loves, as long as you know in your heart that you love God and follow his will then be at peace.
Remember that the bible was written by men and not dictated by God also remember that if we were to follow everything written in the Bible literally then half of all of us both gay and straight will be dead because in the same chapter which states that gays should be killed it also states that those who wear fabrics of different mixtures (like wearing linen and cotton or silk and chiffon) should be killed as well. it also suggests killing your children if they disobey you. and waiting 6 years before harvesting any crops you have planted… ( i often ask myself if i followed this wouldnt i have died of starvation within those 6 years of offering to God??)
also remember the words of jesus which states that “LET THEE WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE”. for the homophobes who judge gays and discriminate against them based on religious grounds, ask yourself this question.. am i that special and free from sin?? the Bible also states that sex before marriage is an abomintaion however i do not see anybody being discriminated for it, in fact society promotes it by giving out free condoms to teenagers in order to stop the spread of diseases.
speaking of diseases to those who claim that AIDS is gods wrath on gay people i would have you know that there are more straight casualties and people being infected with aids everyday than there are for gay people.
KNOW YOUR FACTS AnD STATISTICS BEFORE YOU MAKE A CLAIM!!!
All im saying is that the bible is a controversial and highly misunderstood doctrine, it is up to us as humans to understand ourselves and our nature, remember that homosexuality is not only present in humans but also in animals species ranging from dogs, lions, girrafes, lizards, zebras, dolphins and many more.
keep cool, love your God, love yourself and live your life to the fullest.

God honours those who OVERCOME. Homosexuality is no different from lusty heterosexuality (i.e. Immoral). e.g heterosexual sex before marriage. Yes God loves me BUT, the sacred practice of sex is specially, created by God for the institution of marriage (man and wife)finish and klaar! Remember our God is the same today as he was in the beginning and will never change, he will always love me no matter how sinful I am. Just because god loves me doesn’t make it right to have sex before marriage no matter how much I love my girlfriend, no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that. I must honour God by overcoming temptation of the flesh and do what is right by God which is in this case abstinence. Now the same must apply for homosexuality or even any other form of heterosexual sex relations outside of marriage. God bless you all in the name of saviour Jesus Christ
