D23, Disney’s biennial fan expo, took place in Anaheim, California this weekend. During a film panel for A Wrinkle In Time, director Ava DuVernay and the cast presented the first teaser trailer. To say the footage is dazzling would be an understatement. DuVernay has outdone herself.
“I saw myself in it,” DuVernay said during the panel. “And I saw so many different kinds of people in it and personalities and I thought, gosh, if I could bring my idea of it to the classic novel, maybe we can make something new, And the only place to do that is at Disney. A family story wrapped in an epic adventure where you see worlds you’ve never seen before—it’s the perfect place.”
A Wrinkle In Time is based on the science fantasy novel of the same name by Madeleine L’Engle. The 1963 novel won a Newbery Medal, Lewis Carroll Shelf Award and was a runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award. The upcoming film adaptation takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and ultimately, the triumph of love.
Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Mindy Kaling headline the star-studded cast. Also appearing in the movie are Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pena, Levi Miller, Deric McCabe, André Holland, Rowan Blanchard, Storm Reid and Zach Galifianakis.
A Wrinkle in Time hits theaters everywhere on March 9, 2018. Check out the teaser trailer below.
