The latest A Star Is Born remake doesn’t arrive until October 5, but apparently a few people have already seen it. Sean Penn being one of them. Did he like it? That would be an understatement. The Oscar-winning actor and filmmaker showered it with some serious praise.
“I just saw, what should be a disaster. I saw a remake, the third remake, of A Star Is Born,” he said during an interview with Marc Maron. “And if I could do that today, what he did with that story, I’d be staying in the game. But I don’t have the perspective, and maybe not the skill sets. This is one of the most beautiful, fantastic, it’s the best, and most importantly, commercial film I have seen in so many years.” He added, “The two of them are miracles in it.”
A Star Is Born, starring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper is the third English movie remake. The original 1937 film starred Janet Gaynor and Frederic March. It was then adapted for a 1954 musical starring Judy Garland and James Mason. A subsequent 1976 rock musical remake starred Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
Speaking of Streisand, she’s also seen an early cut. She told Billboard that it’s “very, very good.” That’s some high praise from Babs. I can’t wait to see the first trailer.
