52nd Annual Grammy Nominations

Once again the biggest night in music, The Grammy Awards, are just around the corner. Celebrating their 52nd year, the upcoming 2009/2010 Grammy Awards promise to be entertaining! The nominations for were announced on Wednesday, December 2nd and needless to say this is one of the most exciting days of the year for me (largely to do with the Country genre) as I get EXTREMELY excited for all of the nominees. I don’t know what it is about award shows in general but there’s something about the brooding hope of the utmost achievement and watching people’s dreams come true is nothing short but inspiring.

Based on the following list of nominees, I can only IMAGINE the performance that will be put together/collaborated on for the live television event. Airing this upcoming January 31st, a bit early this year due to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, we’re getting a taste of the magic sooner than we’d expect. I really hope that all the artists asked to perform pull out all the tricks in the bag to make this event bigger than any year before. Another special element of this year’s awards sure to be truly magical will be the tribute to the ever inspiring Michael Jackson that we’re sure to experience.

Now, on to the goods! The following list is a just a small compilation of the many categories and nominations, deemed what I feel to be the ones most likely to be aired during the upcoming televised event:

The list definitely holds a few surprises and a few front runners in a lot of the categories. I will admit I was surprised to see the vast major of popular music within the framework over previous years that have tended towards a more even divide of popular versus unfamiliar artists/music.

With that said, Beyonce and Lady Gaga if scheduled to perform will no doubt rock out in style, one-uping each other throughout the night! Speaking of one-uping, my personal favorite nomination stems from another SNL skit, under the Best Rap/Sung Collaberation by The Lonely Island and T-Pain – I’m On A Boat. As my facebook status says, I’m pretty sure we have a guaranteed winner!

The grammys are a joke now. I think they’ve lost their touch. Lol

They definitely have gone a lot more mainstream this year than in years past!
