Here is a list of 5 things grown men should no longer wear. There are many things we have grown up wearing that we could get away with back then but now that we are adults, it is time to throw these things out and replace them with more age appropriate versions. Time to clean out your closets so here are a few suggestions on what to replace them with.

1. Backpacks – Unless you’re carrying huge amount of books from one classroom to another, this choice of bag should never be an option. The only time a backpack is acceptable is when you are traveling or hiking. Replace your backpack with a messenger bag or a duffel bag. I’m a big fan of Freitag, they make their bags out of well-traveled truck tarpaulins, unraveled seat belts, bicycle inner tubes beyond repair, recycled airbags, and come in fun colours and patterns.

2. Sleeveless shirts – Unless you have seriously honed muscles opt for a nice t shirt instead, avoid wearing sleeveless shirts cause nobody wants to see your armpit hair. Simple t shirts work best and avoid college type shirts with witty sayings. Leave those to the college students.

Here are a few from my favourite store SSENSE.

3. Baseball caps – As Adam have told you in his Top 10, the impression this choice of headgear is that one is balding. The only time baseball caps are suitable is when you are engaging in athletic activity (man-hunting at the club is not one of them) such as sports or at the gym. Yes we all have bad hair days but opt for other hats like fedoras, Dutch boy (Fiddler) cap or a Poorboy Hat depending on what suits you of course.

4. Multiple Layers of Jewelery (Accessories) – Avoid wearing more than 2 pieces of jewelery at a time. You don’t wanna look like an accessory stand at Claire’s. Wearing a watch, bracelet, necklace and rings all at once is just too much. Space your jewelery out, if you’re wearing a watch then try to balance this out with a necklace if you feel the need to wear more than one accessory (honestly, I keep my accessories to a bare minimum). Rings and bracelets at the same time is just too much. Basic age appropriate accessories are simple, stay away from gaudy pieces and invest in a classic watch, simple chain necklace and a plain band ring.

5. Jeans with Holes – It may have been in fashion back then but it’s time to give this trend a rest. A little distressing is acceptable but over processed bleached out destroyed jeans are not age appropriate. It’s always better to look more polished than disheveled.
