GLAAD previously announced the nominations for their 2016 Media Awards. The organization just revealed that both Demi Lovato and Ruby Rose will be honored at the ceremony with special awards.
The “Neon Lights” singer will receive the Vanguard Award which is presented to a member of the entertainment community who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people. Find out which honor Rose is receiving below.
The Orange Is The New Black actress is the recipient of the Stephen F. Kolzak award. It is named after the Los Angeles casting director who devoted the last part of his life to fighting AIDS-phobia and homophobia in the entertainment industry. The award is given to an openly LGBT member of the entertainment or media community for his or her work toward eliminating homophobia.
“Ruby Rose is captivating audiences across the world, using her voice to transform conversations about gender and inclusion,” said GLAAD president Sarah Kate Ellis. “Through her visibility and outspoken advocacy, Ruby is breaking ground and inspiring dialogue that advances acceptance for people of all genders.”
