2018 Gotham Independent Film Awards: Complete Winners List

The 2018 Gotham Independent Film Awards took place at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City Monday evening. The Oscar race is still taking form but there were definitely a couple of surprises.

The Favourite was expected to take Best Feature given its rising profile and buzz. In addition, the organization had already announced it was bestowing a special Gotham Jury Award to Olivia Colman, Emma Stone, and Rachel Weisz for their ensemble performance in the film. However, Chloé Zhao’s Western drama The Rider took the prize. She wasn’t even on hand to accept the award.

The Rider producer Molly Asher accepted the award saying, “I know that she never in a million years, the modest person that she is, would have thought that we would have won this. We made the movie with six people on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.”

Another surprise occurred in the Best Actress category. The heavy favorite for Oscar glory come February 2019 is Glenn Close. She’s long overdue with six Oscar nominations but with no win. Not to mention she reportedly delivers an acting tour de force in The Wife. Close better watch out because Toni Collette is hot on her heels. The Aussie actress won Best Actress for Hereditary.
