2018 Directors Guild Of America Awards: Greta Gerwig, Jordan Peele & More Snag Nominations

When it comes to predicting how the Academy will pick Best Director, the Directors Guild of America has a strong track record. Only seven of the group’s winners have failed to repeat at the Oscars. The following nominees should feel optimistic that their names will be read out loud come January 24 when the Oscar nominations are announced.

Unlike the Golden Globes which featured an all-male roster, the DGAs shows a greater representation of race and gender. Greta Gerwig breaks into the boys club for her work on Lady Bird. Jordan Peele received twice the love for his directorial debut, Get Out. Not only did he earn a nod for Best Director but also for First-Time Feature Director.

Noticeably absent from the five nominees were Steven Spielberg (The Post) and Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name). Both directors made the Golden Globes cut but failed to do so here. Don’t count them out yet for the Oscars. I expect one of them to play spoiler.

Check out the 2018 DGA nominees below.
