2018 Billboard Music Awards: My Five Favorite Performances

After fulfilling familial obligations at an out-of-town wedding, I scurried my ass back home to host a viewing party for the 2018 Billboard Music Awards on our roof deck. While I normally hold a party for the Oscars and Golden Globes, the BBMAs don’t typically get the same treatment. Why the exception? Two words: Janet Jackson!!! The 52-year-old was not only accepting the Billboard Icon Award but also performing on television for the first time in almost a decade. Finally justice for Janet.

While I love me some Janet, her medley was a little underwhelming. She looked great and performed well, but her song list was suspect at best. Why only three songs and “Throb” being one of them? It’s a great track but why not “That’s The Way Love Goes,” “Together Again” or “All For You.” Still, it was great to see here.

By far though, my favorite performance was Kelly Clarkson. Girlfriend slayed it during her opening number where she covered some of the biggest hits from the past year. She needs to host the BBMAs every year!!!

Coming in at a close second was Salt-N-Pepa who closed out the show. These ladies know how to put on a medley. Their set list was on point and they even invited En Vogue to sing “Whatta Man.” Check out their performance below, along with my other favorites.

2018 Billboard Music Awards – Best Performances

1. Kelly Clarkson Opening Number

2. Salt-N-Pepa Medley

3. Janet Jackson – Billboard Icon Performance

4. Ariana Grande ‘No Tears Left To Cry’

5. Dua Lipa ‘New Rules’

Though it didn’t crack my Top 5, this fantastic pairing needs an honorable mention. Vocals and runs for days!!!

Christina Aguilera & Demi Lovato ‘Fall In Line’

I agree with those top 5! Janet was eh, though. I didn’t like half those songs and would have loved “All For You”. xtina and Demi were blah too. Not good.
