2017 MTV VMAs: Kendrick Lamar, Katy Perry & The Weeknd Lead Nominations

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards air on Sunday, August 27. The artists vying for those coveted Moonman statues have been unveiled. The network announced the nominations via Instagram Live earlier today.

Leading the pack with eight nods is Kendrick Lamar, with Katy Perry and The Weeknd close behind with five apiece. Like it did for the MTV Movie & TV Awards, the network is combining the Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories into a new category, Artist of the Year. Not a surprise there, since their decision for the non-gendered category received critical praise.

For those hoping to see an awkward awards run-in between Fifth Harmony and Camila Cabello, you’re SOL. 5H received some love while Cabello was shut out. At least Camila is winning on the charts. “Crying In The Club,” as of this post, has performed much better on the Billboard Hot 100 than “Down.”

Also receiving noms this year include Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles to name a few. Surprisingly snubbed were Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga. Check out all the nominees below.
