2017 AMAs: Pink Scales Building, Christina Aguilera Does ‘Bodyguard’ Medley & More Highlights

In terms of nominations, there was a lack of female representation. The ladies more than made up for it when it came to showtime at the 2017 American Music Awards. My favorite performances of the night, all came from women.

Pink and Kelly Clarkson kicked things off with a powerful duet dedicated to first responders and those affected by recent tragedies. They covered “Everybody Hurts” from R.E.M. Both ladies returned later in the show to perform separate sets and wowed for a second time.

Pink defied gravity with her “Beautiful Trauma” performance. She executed a breathtaking aerial act while suspended on the side of the JW Marriott. Those staying at the hotel certainly got a great view. Meanwhile, Clarkson delivered a powerhouse vocal with her medley of “Independent Woman” and “Love So Soft.”

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Bodyguard, Christina Aguilera sang four hits from the blockbuster. She did Whitney Houston proud with her covers of “I Will Always Love You,” “I Have Nothing,” “Run To You” and “I’m Every Woman.” While I enjoyed her set, I felt X-tina was a little off. It was good, but not out of this world.

Selena Gomez’s return to the AMAs also was a favorite. It’s great to see Selena healthy after her kidney transplant earlier this year. Love the new blonde bob.

Rounding out my top five was none other than Diana Ross. The 73-year-old legend showed she still had it with her greatest hits medley before accepting her Lifetime Achievement Award. She should also be proud of her daughter Tracee Ellis Ross. She did a pretty decent job hosting the event.

The big winner of the night was Bruno Mars with seven awards including Artist of the Year. The “That’s What I Like” hitmaker wasn’t in attendance but accepted the big award via taped video message. Keith Urban was also a multiple recipient with three trophies. Other notable winners were Beyonce, Drake, Linkin Park and Coldplay.

really disappointed by xtina. she tried to do too much with it. that’s not how you do a tribute.. and it sounded off in alot of places too..
but maybe she just had a bad night.

pink and kelly slayed as usual though.
