Moonlight Wins Big At 2016 Gotham Awards

moonlight-2016-gotham-awards-winnersMoonlight is becoming quite the formidable force this awards season. The Barry Jenkins-directed film snagged six Independent Spirit Awards nominations previously, the most along with American Honey, and now this. The drama won four awards, including Best Feature, at the 2016 Gotham Awards. It beat out fellow Oscar contenders Manchester By The Sea and Certain Woman.

Moonlight is a timeless story of human connection and self-discovery. It chronicles the life of a young black man from childhood to adulthood as he struggles to find his place in the world while growing up in a rough neighborhood of Miami.

With regards to the acting categories, Casey Affleck and Isabelle Huppert earned recognition for their work in Manchester By The Sea and Elle respectively. Moonlight also took home a special jury prize for best ensemble. “I can confidently speak for all of us when I say we are forever changed” as a result of starring in the movie, star Mahershala Ali said.

Amy Adams, Ethan Hawke and Oliver Stone received tributes at the awards as well. Both Adams and Hawke received Actress and Actor Tributes, while Stone was the recipient of the Director Tribute.

Keegan-Michael Key hosted the 2016 Gotham Awards held Monday, Nov. 28 in New York City. Check out all the winners below.
