Once again, People magazine has gone overseas to pick the Sexiest Man Alive. Taking over the mantle from Aussie Chris Hemsworth is English soccer heartthrob David Beckham. The 40-year-old father of four snagged the coveted honor for the publication’s 30th anniversary crown. The announcement was made during the Tuesday night episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live.
“I mean it’s the best moment of my career, I can’t believe,” David jokingly said on the show. “I would obviously like my parents for bringing me into this world, of course. I would like to thank my hairdresser, my stylist, photoshop.”
Mel Gibson was the glossy’s first recipient back in 1985. Over the years, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Jackman, Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise and Channing Tatum have graced the annual cover. Richard Gere, Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Johnny Depp have all snagged the title twice.
Beckham is cute and all, but I don’t know if I would call him the sexiest. Would you? Check out all the covers since 2000 below and weigh in on which one is the sexiest. If you’re a fan of the yearly issue, watch Lifetime on Wednesday at 9pm to watch People’s Sexiest Man Alive 2015: 30 Years of Sexy.
