Mad Max: Fury Road Named Best Film At 2015 National Board Of Review

Well that’s an unexpected winner. Not saying that Mad Max: Fury Road isn’t worthy, but it’s not generally perceived by most as a strong contender for Best Film at next year’s Oscars. With that in mind, the NBR also awarded A Most Violent Year the top award last year but was shut out completely at the Academy Awards. Not much crossover here.

Other top films on their short list in 2015 were Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, Room, Spotlight and The Martian to name a few. Speaking of The Martian, Ridley Scott picked up Best Director while Matt Damon scored Best Actor honors. It also won Best Adapted Screenplay. Another surprise winner was Sylvester Stallone snagging Best Supporting Actor for his work in the latest Rocky flick, Creed.

The winners were selected by about 120 film fans from New York who cast their ballots via email or fax. LOL, who still faxes these days? Check out all the winners below. The honorees will pick up their statues at the National Board of Review dinner on Jan. 5, 2016 in New York.
