2013 Tony Award Nominations Announced

Cyndi Lauper’s kinky ways definitely resonated with the Tony nominating committee. The 59-year-old’s musical adaptation of the 2005 British film Kinky Boots dominated the 2013 Tony Award nominations with 13. Its haul of total number of nods fell short of the all-time record of 15 set by The Producers in 2001 and Billy Elliot in 2009. Not far behind Kinky Boots were Matlida (12), Pippin (10) and the revival of Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella (9). Tony winner Sutton Foster and Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson announced the 67th annual Tony nominations earlier this morning from The New York Public Library for Performing Arts.

Other notable nominations include Tom Hanks for his work in the play Lucky Guy. He’s a first-time nominee. Meanwhile, Nathan Lane and David Hyde Pierce added another Tony nod each to their already impressive career totals with their performances in The Nance and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike respectively.

Hollywood actors snubbed by the committee this year include Bette Midler, Vanessa Williams, Katie Holmes, Al Pacino, Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Alec Baldwin. Somewhere out there, I’m sure Shia LaBeouf is smirking a little regarding Baldwin’s omission. Check out all the nominations below. The Tony Awards air live from Radio City Music Hall on Sunday, June 9 at 8/7c on CBS.
