Last night, the 2013 Grammy Nominations concert took place, revealing this year’s nominees and inadvertently, those who surprisingly weren’t nominated. Leading the pack this year were Fun., Jay-Z, Mumford & Sons, Frank Ocean, and Kanye West who scored six nominations each. Following their lead were The Black Keys and Miguel with five nods. Vocal powerhouse, Kelly Clarkson was treated to four nominations, Taylor Swift got three, and Canada’s own Carly Rae Jepsen, got two nominations.
Both Justin Bieber & Nicki Minaj were both snubbed by the Grammys this year. Nicki Minaj was nominated for “Best Rap Album” last year, but moving into the pop category this year, she didn’t make the cut. I’m genuinely surprise that Bieber didn’t get nominated for his Believe album – I thought the album was quite strong myself. His manager Scooter Braun took to Twitter to voice his opinion. After first congratulating Carly Rae Jepsen, he said, “this time there wont be any wise words, no excuses, I just plain DISAGREE. The kid deserved it. Grammy board u blew it on this one… He later added, “the hardest thing to do is transition, keep the train moving. the kid delivered. Huge succesful album, sold out tour, and won people over…” In another tweet, he insisted, “…this time he deserved to be recognized and I dont really have any kind nice positive things to say about a decision i dont agree with.”
In any event, he didn’t get nominated but the giant list of people below did. The 55th annual Grammy Awards air Sunday, February 10, on CBS. Check out the nominees below. As a side note, Donovan had previously listed his “Best New Artist” predictions, getting two out of the thirteen options listed correct. I’ve made note of the two he got right underneath that category. In his poll, post people picked Carly Rae Jepsen, but she actually wasn’t nominated in that category.

the real snub is madonna’s album not getting a single nomination yet lmfao gets a nomination for a piece of crap. i understand nicki minaj not getting nominated as a snub but when justin bieber does not get nominated for a grammy that means something is going right. until he can show actual artistry and not recycle what usher or justin timberlake did years ago then maybe he will get more consideration.

There’ll be some eye rolls about Call Me Maybe but fact is it’s a perfect pop song and captured the worlds attention more than any other song this year, I think she deserves Song of the Year.

the song “call me maybe” is nice and fluffy…it does not mean she is a Best New Artist conender…..so she got nominated in the most fitting category….just because you have a great hit song that everyone knows and likes, doesn’t gurantee staying power….i don’t live in the u.s. where the music one hears is dictated by CLEARCHANNEL MEDIA (i.e. all the Kiss FM statins) in every single state i’ve visited all playing the same songs countless times a day….but i haven’t heard aything else from Jepsen since call me maybe….why i just focused on her alone is beyond me….
well, i guess i can say this about Madonna: she pretty much lost me after the Ray of Light and Music albums, and then she went all timbaland and justin timberlake, and she’s well over 50 and she’s a great artis, but she may as well just retire or go back to meaning to them and not putting out albums just because she can

Can someone tell me whats the difference of RECORD OF THE YEAR and SONG OF THE YEAR?!?
EvChemical
December 7th, 2012 at 8:41 am
I thought the difference is “Record” is a single, song doesn’t necessarily have to be. They just usually are because artists usually release their best songs as singles.
That’s my best guess anyway.

i think record of the year is for the songwriter while song of the year is for the singer or its reverse but i know thats the situation. usually an artist will write and perform the song so they end up getting both nominations.

record of the year is the “single” itself, which goes to the singer…..song of the year goes to the writers of the song….
let’s say Celine Dion got nominated for “my heart will go on” in both categories….if the song wins for record of the year, she would go up to accept the award….and when it wins for “song of the year” then whoever wrote the song would go up and accept the award, which i think was Diane Warren…
i’m too lazy to do the research for that specific example, or even to corroborate my explanation….but i feel certain i am right
