One Direction were definitely the big winners at this year’s MTV VMAs with regards to snagging the most awards. The British boy band walked away with moon statues for best pop video, best new artist, and most-shareworthy video for “What Makes You Beautiful,” beating out acts like The Wanted, Justin Bieber and Rihanna. The Bajan beauty shouldn’t be too upset, she scored the big award of the night, Best Music Video of the Year.

As with most of these things, it’s all about what people wore on the red carpet. Since it’s a music-related affair, there tend to be more fashion risks than your typical awards show. I’ve gone through all the arrivals and picked my Top 5 picks for best and worst dressed at the 2012 MTV VMAs. But before we do, can we discuss P!nk’s doppelganger?

Who knew the 32-year-old singer had a younger sister? With her new chopped blond hairdo, Miley Cyrus definitely exhibited some serious Single White Female behavior last night, channeling the “So What” singer. It’s like they went to the same salon before the event. P!nk wore a full length Stella McCartney dress, while Miley chose an Emilio Pucci sheer cutout gown. Both ladies looked great, but who did P!nk better? Cast your vote below.

Best Dressed @ 2012 MTV VMAs

Alicia Keys

Just like her new single, Alicia Keys is a “Girl On Fire.” She sizzles in this metallic one-shoulder Alexandre Vauthier gown. Her performance outfit was smoking hot as well. Welcome back Alicia.

Taylor Swift

Anytime she’s not wearing the same bedazzled muted gown, I approve. While the white suit is smart, I preferred her J Crew’ish Hamptons-inspired striped ensemble during her performance better.

Ke$ha

Given the “Tik Tok” singer’s past epic fashion failures, this Zaldy nude mini-dress with black floral applique detail is a winner. Is trashy Ke$ha gone forever?

Katy Perry

The 27-year-old singer decided to go glamorous with this Elie Saab black dress. I much prefer this look than those Candyland-inspired colorful trainwrecks she wears on tour.

Zoe Saldana

Sporting relaxed ringlets and a Salvatore Ferragamo dress, the 34-year-old was pretty in pink on the red carpet. This woman can do no wrong in my books.

Worst Dressed @ 2012 MTV VMAs

Rita Ora

I may like how the Brit singer likes to party, but I’m not a fan of “How She Do” on the red carpet. She looks like Elvis Presley’s illegitimate daughter in this Emilio Pucci jumpsuit. Her fringe outfit on stage when she presented an award was MUCH better.

Sammi ‘Sweetheart’ Giancola

Personally, that bow on the bustline is heinous. Nobody wants to unwrap this gift. I hope the gift receipt is attached.

Nicki Minaj

Both Rihanna and Katy Perry have ditched their Kool-Aid inspired hair colors. Perhaps, it’s time Minaj do the same. This Versace jumpsuit is a little too bordello for my taste. That said, she could replace Lil Kim in a 2012 update of “Lady Marmalade”.

Ezra Miller & Emma Watson

You get a twofer here. If this was in the closet when Ezra Miller came out, he should’ve stay in there. LOL, I kid. It’s definitely NOT cowboy chic.

Looks like someone cast a fugly fashion spell at Hogwarts on our dear Emma Watson. This Peter Pilotto dress is no bueno.

Jessica Szohr

No wonder she never fit in with the Upper East Siders. Just look at her fashion choices. Normally, I like Jessica’s boho East Village style, but that animal print headband is horrible.
