This morning, the 2012 MTV Europe Music Award nominations were announced and to my surprise, Europe wasn’t very well represented. Unlike the the Much Music Video Awards which focuses heavily on its Canadian talent with only a few categories open to international artists, the EMA’s have really allowed for US acts to dominate the categories. For example, in Best Song and both Best Male/Female categories, not one European act is represented. Surely there was a European act that stood out this year on the charts, no? Where’s Olly Murs? Or even Ed Sheeran. Both snubbed.
But the ultimate snub definitely goes to boy banders The Wanted who didn’t receive one single nomination. Not one. After the success of their sophomore album Battleground and a successful US release and mini-tour, you think at least they’d receive a nod in the Best Pop or Biggest Fans categories. Badmate Tom definitely didn’t let his frustration go unnoticed and took to Twitter to vent about the snub.
“I think it’s bullsh*t we weren’t nominated for an EMA this year!!! @mtvema” I have admit, I agree with him. If I were them, I would feel a little snubbed. Someone who is definitely feeling the love from the European crew is Canadian native Carly Rae Jepsen who received three nods including Best New and Best Song for her summer smash hit. The award show will take place in Frankfurt, Germany on November 11. You check out a list of the nominees below and share your thoughts with us.
