New York City’s firefighters are normally used to putting out fires and not creating them. I’m sure lots of ladies and gay men will be in heat after checking out these chiseled heroes in the 2011 City of the Brave calendar. 12 of NYC’s finest from the FDNY donated their time and apparently the clothes of their back for this charitable effort. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the Thomas R. Elsasser Fund, which supports families of active NY firefighters who die outside the line of duty.

Photographer Katherine Kostreva has been snapping these brawny men for several years now for her annual calendars. She made it her mission to honor these everyday heroes as her way of giving back to them. Years ago, firefighters saved her life when they pulled her body from a severe car accident. Discover why the City of the Brave calendar is one of the most anticipated ones of the year by checking out the pics below.

For some months, I was able to find quotes from the respective cover boy talking about their best feature. When I couldn’t find one, I inserted my own thoughts on what I thought their best feature was. For those months, I’ve denoted them with IMHO. I just wanted to make that disclaimer just in case some of the firefighters stumbled upon this post.

Mr. January: Anthony Picozzi

Best feature (IMHO): Those amazing blue eyes

Mr. February: Philip Sylvester, 26

Best feature: “My humongous derrière,” Sylvester says. “Seriously. The female populace tell me it’s very juicy.” He has to work at it though, doing ‘lots of squats’ once a week.

Mr. March: Felipe Shadai Irizarry

Best feature (IMHO): His 8-pack

Mr. April: Pete Frankini

Best feature (IMHO): His salt-n-pepper looks.

Mr. May: Randall Cole

Best feature (IMHO): His pecs and nipples. They keep following you no matter where you look from.

Mr. June: Michael Jiminez

Best feature (IMHO): His guns.

Mr. July: Terrance Keeby, 30

Best feature: His smile. ‘I’ve been told that by my girlfriend, my mom and other women,’ says Keeby.

Mr. August: Demetrius Recordo

Best feature (IMHO): His broad shoulders.

Mr. September: Michael Tuma

Best feature (IMHO): His bulging forearm veins.

Mr. October: Joseph Aviles, 26

Best feature: “I would say my arms. People look at them and say, ‘You must work out a lot. You have a nice physique.’”

Mr. November: Wes Atherly, 28

Best feature: “I always get complimented on my smile, but I don’t know – I’m just your average Joe Schmo!”

Mr. December: Chris Gonzalez, 41

Best feature: “I’d have to say my chest – the girls like the way my chest has a nice, circular formation, like a barrel chest.”
