Madrid definitely knows how to throw a party. The capital city of Spain hosted the “2010 MTV Europe Music Awards“. “Desperate Housewives” star, Eva Longoria-Parker emceed the event and managed to make eight wardrobe changes within the telecast. All of which were designed by Victoria Beckham. Posh may not be the best vocalist, but the girl has some serious design skills. Going into the ceremony, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry lead the field with five nominations apiece. After all was said and done, Gaga stood alone atop with a dominating haul of three awards.
Even though the awards were decided by a popular vote on MTV’s European site, American acts dominated the major awards. In fact, all the main winners were from the US with exception to one. The sole exception was 16-year-old crazy Canuck, Justin Bieber. He beat out Usher, Eminem and Kanye West to score “Best Male Artist“.
Shakira kicked off the night with the help of British rapper, Dizzee Rascal. Other performances include Kings of Leon, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Kid Rock and many more. Bon Jovi received the coveted closing performance slot. The band picked up the first ever “Global Icon” award. They received the honor for selling more than 125 million albums and performing over 2,700 concerts in 50 countries to 35 millions.
To view their performance and all the rest, check them out below. I suggest you hurry, because it’s only a matter of time before MTV takes them all down. Enjoy the vids while you can, and don’t forget to cast your vote after checking out your favorites.
Overall, the show had a decent rooster of performances. Didn’t the stage look amazing? I love the oversized speaker. While all the ladies looked great, a lot of them didn’t sound it. I thought Shakira and Hayley Williams were the only ones that sang well. Katy was screechy, Rihanna flat at times and Ke$ha was… well, Ke$ha.
