Yesterday, I highlighted the laugh-inducing ladies of the Best Supporting Actress, Comedy Series category. Today, it’s all about the men. Just like the women, “Glee“, “Modern Family” and “Two and a Half Men” are all well represented in this category. The only anomaly is the acting nod for “How I Met Your Mother“.
Show: How I Met Your Mother
Role: Barry Stinson
Episode Submitted: Girls vs. Suits
The soon-to-be father of twins, NPH scores his fourth straight nomination for his womanizing character, Barry Stinson. Always the bridesmaid and never the bride, Harris hasn’t walked away with the statue as of yet, though he has hosted the awards ceremony. Could this year finally be the year he’s victorious. He has a good shot, especially if the “Modern Family” boys cancel each other out.
Show: Glee
Role: Kurt Hummel
Episode Submitted: Laryngitis
As much as I love “Glee” and Kurt Hummel, I think he’s a long shot to take the award. Though he steals scenes with his hilarious one-liners and facial expressions, it’s his dramatic heart wrenching emotional scenes with his father that deliver the most impact. Colfer should be happy being the only male McKinley High show choir member to catch Emmy’s nominating committee.
Show: Two and a Half Men
Role: Alan Harper
Episode Submitted: Captain Terry’s Spray-On Hair
This is Cryer’s fifth nomination for playing the pragmatic brother of Chralie Sheen. He won the award last year for the first time. Now that he’s won, I don’t expect him to repeat at this year’s telecast. Maybe it’s wishful thinking since I don’t watch show and can’t comprehend that it’s still on the air. CBS please cancel this dreck.

Show: Modern Family
Role: Phil Dunphy
Episode Submitted: Game Changer
The first of three supporting male acting nods for the freshman comedy, “Modern Family”. Like his TV wife, Julie Bowen, Burrell plays the role of dimwitted and clueless Phil Dunphy perfectly. His awkward slapstick comedy harkens to the old days of “I Love Lucy”. The clueless schtick might appeal to the older-skewing Academy and defeat his two other castmates.
Show: Modern Family
Role: Cameron Tucker
Episode Submitted: Fizbo
If I had my way, Eric Stonestreet would take the prize, simply for giving us Fizbo the clown. If you look up the word scene stealer in the dictionary, you’ll find this comedic genius. He never fails to make me smile whenever he appears on screen.
Show: Modern Family
Role: Mitchell Pritchett
Episode Submitted: Family Portrait
While Stonestreet gets to play the flamboyant gay in their relationship, Ferguson gets to play the reserved half. Sure his lover gets to deliver all the laughs, but if it weren’t for Jesse, the jokes would never be set-up for Stonestreet to hit a homerun. It’s not as flashy as his two castmates, but it definitely shines own its own merits.
SHOULD WIN: Eric Stonestreet
WILL WIN: Neil Patrick Harris
As much as I’d love for one of the “Modern Family” boys to win, I think Harris will finally get his due. His built up a lot of goodwill the past few years for his role on the sitcom, his awards hosting duties and memorable guest appearances on other shows like “Glee”. Plus with his pending fatherhood status on the horizon, he’s become a role model for gays that the Academy will want to commend. Suck on that PROP 8.
