Last night, the Academy announced the best of the best from the 2009-2010 television season, but let’s face it, the crown every actress wants is the “Best Dressed” one. While some took chances and failed, others played it too safe and still failed.
The following ladies, IMHO, chose wise calculated risks, accessorized brilliantly and rocked it out on the red carpet. Taking into account that fashion is highly subjective, I reveal to you, the 10 best dressed ladies from last night. Check it out and see if you agree with my picks.
Sofia didn’t go home with a golden statue, but who cares when you look like one. She sparkled in a Carolina Herrera gown accented by Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Brian Atwood heels. Muy caliente. Fun side note, Herrera loves Sofia’s sexy rolling Rs when saying her name.
I hate to use the cliche, but Keri was charmingly pretty in pink. Normally I’m not a fan of this hue of pink, but Keri looked young and fresh in this vintage Scherrer halter dress from Decades. She paired the dress with Jimmy Choo heels and accessorized it with a Judith Leiber bag. I’m so happy she’s coming back to network series television.
A lot of people didn’t like this dress, but I’m going to go against the grain and say I LOVED it. I love that the “Mad Men” actress took a chance with this stunning Versace dress. She topped it off with Cartier diamonds worth 1.2 million dollars. Mui Mui was responsible for providing the footwear. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about, was the intentional tousled bed hair. It didn’t fit the overall aesthetic of the detailing of the dress.
Usually at every major awards show, you have a couple of starlets donning Grecian-inspired dresses. While some fail (Kim Kardashian), others flourish like “Damages” star, Rose Byrne. She looked so much like a Greek goddess, Rose was ready to take her throne on Mt. Olympus. The design of back of this Gucci dress was breathtaking. It was soft and hard all at the same time. She accessorized the gown with Gucci shoes, a Bulgari bag and Bochic jewelry.
Eva Longoria Parker
The “Desperate Housewives” actress seldom disappoints on the red carpet. Sometimes choosing a black dress can be safe, but Eva proves she can wear anything and she’ll look stunning. She sizzled in a Robert Rodriguez. I love the simple bodice, matched with a more intricate bottom.
Here’s another one that wasn’t a favorite with most people. I absolutely love the intricate pleated ruffles. Normally ruffles aren’t a girl’s best friend, but I feel the cinched waist prevents Emily from looking too big. This one-shoulder plum gown was designed by Maz Azria Atelier. I’m totally feeling the color of this dress. Her stylist did a great job of picking gold accessories to perfectly complement the gown.
Not only was she basking with her Leading Actress nomination on Sunday, but Lea Michele was also celebrating her 24th birthday. This Oscar de la Renta dress was a little safe, but I love how she paired it with stunning Lorraine Schwartz jewels. That necklace is killer. I think a sexy up-do or a low bun could’ve really brought it to the next level.
It’s not your typical mermaid, Grecian or form-fitting dress that’s commonly chosen by stars, but that’s why it works. Even though some might say it looks like she has a huge napkin on the front, I will have to respectfully disagree. Lauren Graham is age-appropriate sexy in this Yigal Azrouel gown. She finished her look with Ofira jewelry. I’m in love with the high leg slit. Slutty but tasteful at the same time.
A lot of ladies sported jeweled dresses, but I think Claire Danes reigned supreme amongst them. She literally sparkled in this Armani Prive strapless number. It was fantastic homage to old Hollywood glamour.
Where’s Kelly Osbourne, and what did Sharon and Ozzy do with her. Because this new and improved model is smoking hot. The slimmed down former wild child, looked super sexy in a black Tony Ward dress. Seriously what diet did she go on, Kelly 2.0 needs to give me the 411 immediately.
There you have it folks, the ten best dressed ladies, in my opinion, at this year’s Emmy Awards. Did I leave out any of your favorites? I’d love to hear which ones I might’ve missed.
