In the spirit of covering all things So You Think You Can Dance-related here at Homorazzi, I thought I would do a special entry outside of my weekly recaps and discussions to highlight the achievements of the show and their related alumni and judges. The 2010 Emmy Award nominations were announced earlier this week and although there appears to be endless categories and nominations, the dance/choreography section always holds a special place in my heart. Although these awards aren’t part of the on-air broadcast on August 29, I felt it was needed to call special attention to the brilliance of the artists involved.
The nominations for 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography were:
Routines: Opening Number/No One Wants to Do It Alone & Score Suite
ABC – Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
Choreographer: Adam Shankman (SYTYCD season seven resident judge)
Routines: Futuristic Paso Doble/Living On Video & Quickstep/Anything Goes
ABC – BBC – Worldwide Productions
Choreographer: Derek Hough
Routine: Paso Doble/Malaquena
ABC – BBC – Worldwide Productions
Choreographers: Chelsie Hightower (SYTYCD alumni) and Derek Hough
Routines: Gravity/Addiction & Koop Island Blues & One
Fox – Dick Clark Productions and 19 Entertainment
Choreographer: Mia Michaels
Routine: Fear
Fox – Dick Clark Productions and 19 Entertainment
Choreographer: Stacey Tookey
(As brought to us earlier from commenter Kevin)…
My vote and hopes are with Canadian girl, Stacey Tookey to trump Mia Michaels (who was actually her mentor earlier in life – thanks Tyrell for that tid bit of information as well)!

I love that Addiction piece! And I liked Stacey Tookie’s routine as well, but I think her routines in the Canadian show are much better (particularly, To Build a Home and It Doesn’t Hurt.)
I’m surprised with the absence of a Wade and a Sonya routine. I would’ve thought Ruby Blue (with Brandon and Janette) or any of his group routines, as well as Sonya’s piece for Jakob and Ellenore were shoo-ins.

As much as I’d love to see Stacey Tookey take it… her piece was great… that Addiction routine by Mia Michaels still just gives me chills.
It reminds me how much I loved the show… I feel it’s lost its intimacy and passion since they switched sets and tried to make it bigger… This season has been an absolute bust.

I am BEYOND SHOCKED that Tyce diorio’s “This woman’s work” routine was not nominated. Melissa and Ade were able to perfectly paint the picture of how painful the process of cancer is for the induvidual and family.
That number was higly emotional, the whole judging panel of SYTYCD season 5 started to cry. If I remember Nigel even said that Tyce should be nominated for that number. Tyce got screwed over

Great comments boys, thanks Paolo, Anthony and Graham! I definitely think Tyce’s routine was awesome but I wouldn’t necessarily have put it in the nominations category either.
I definitely agree with Anthony’s comment about the Mia Michaels’ Addiction piece – I watch it every so often to get the chills feeling over and over again.
