Justin Bieber was the big winner at last night’s “American Music Awards” winning everything he was nominated for, but who was the winner on the red carpet? Let’s take a closer look. Traditionally, music awards bring out more adventurous dressing than other awards shows. And for that, I am thankful. It’s far more interesting to pick out the fashion hits and misses. Like beauty, fashion is highly subjective. Just look at Project Runway. Sometimes, I’m completely boggled on who the judges pick to win and go home.
I’ve picked five nominees for Homorazzi’s “Best Dressed” and “Worst Dressed” honors. In several instances, I shocked myself on who I picked. Perennial worst dressed offenders surprised me with uncharacteristic good taste, while others disappointed. Check out the candidates below and help crown a winner.
THE 5 BEST DRESSED
What she wore: Collette Dinnigan mini with Jimmy Choo shoes.
At first, I wasn’t a fan of Taylor losing her traditional curly locks, but this entire look works for me. It’s age appropriate and gives her an edge without losing her girl-next-door appeal.
What she wore: Strapless Marchesa gown
Normally Miley is a fashion misfire, but IMHO, she nailed the target with this outfit. It’s sexy, demure and classy at the same time. This is a perfect red carpet look for the “new” Miley. It’s seductive without being vulgar. Isn’t that subtle white print absolutely ethereal?
What she wore: Badgley Mischka with Brian Atwood
Compared to that ill-fitting heinous red outfit during her AMA performance, this is leaps and bounds better. It’s nice to see Katy just be pretty without overdoing it with distracting bells and whistles (literally).
THE SMITH WOMEN
What they wore: Jada wears Emilion Pucci with a pair of Louboutins. Willow wore a custom grey romper.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way. Jada is breathtaking in her gladiator-inspired get-up. BRAVO. For someone who is only 10-years-old, Willow has more style in her pinky than most women. I can’t wait to see what her fashion sense will be at 16. I love the 80s-inspired ankle boots and yellow strap jacket. The outfit isn’t perfect though. That bunching looks narrowly close to being camel toe. Still, her fashion risk needs to be applauded.
What she wore: Rafael Cennamo dress
Considering she’s a budding fashion designer, I wouldn’t have expected any less than this. The draping of that gorgeous print is effortless. For some reason, looking at this dress makes me crave for some ice cream, though.
THE 5 WORST DRESSED
What she wore: Literally trashbags
She’s already worked a trash bag look at this year’s VMAs. Ke$ha really needs to find a new schtick. We get it, you’re trash. Next.
What she wore: Manish Arora
I’ll give her that it’s unique, but how comfortable is that dress to sit in? I do applaud Minaj’s cray cray style, but there’s too much going on here.
What she wore: Elie Saab for both
I love Rihanna and she is one sexy beast, but these two looks make her look hideously drab. I much prefer that short sexy number she rocked out on stage during her performance.
What she wore: ???
I know wearing lace is the hottest trend these days for the red carpet, but there’s just too much of it. I think the whole look ages Heidi Klum by years. That heinous red-trimmed velvet belt doesn’t do her any favors as well. Both Michael Kors and Nina Garcia would auf her off the panel if she showed up on set in this.
What she wore: Falguni & Shane dress, Ruthie Davis pumps and Rene Caovilla clutch.
She looks like a damn peacock, cock, cock, peacock, cock, cock.
