Netflix Officially Renews ’13 Reasons Why’ For A Second Season

To the surprise of no one, Netflix has renewed 13 Reasons Why for a second season. Selena Gomez, who co-produced the series, made it official with an Instagram video captioned, “Their story isn’t over. Season 2 of #13ReasonsWhy is coming.”

The news comes just hours before the cast of the breakout hit will appear at the 2017 MTV Movie & TV Awards. Like all Netflix shows, the actual viewership numbers are unknown, but we do know the series is the most tweeted show of 2017. The second season, which will again consist of 13 episodes, is set to debut on Netflix in 2018. Brian Yorkey will continue to serve as showrunner.

The first season of 13 Reasons Why was based on the book from Jay Asher of the same name. It told the story of Hannah Baker (Katherine Langford), a high school junior who dies by suicide and leaves behind 13 tapes explaining her decision. With no source material to draw from, the sophomore run will venture into uncharted territory.
