Did you watch the 70th annual Golden Globes? Expectations were high for Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s first hosting attempt, and boy did they deliver. I had a few people over for a potluck viewing party and we found ourselves laughing throughout the three-hour ceremony. Hopefully, this is the dawn of a new era. Fingers crossed that the duo emcee the event again next year. It definitely didn’t drag with them on deck.
Equally as impressive, were the ladies on the red carpet. There were barely any fashion trainwrecks this year which is a shame since it’s fun to mock bad choices. If there was a common theme this year, it was to go simple and understated. Another big trend was long sleeves. A few ladies really worked this to perfection. Check out my Top 10 picks for best dresses at the 2013 Golden Globes below.
Not as sensational as her 2013 Critics’ Choice dress, but way better than her 2013 People’s Choice outfit. Zooey Deschanel had a similar look on the red carpet, but Lawrence’s Christian Dior Haute Couture dress was far more sophisticated. Love the waist detail.
Even Lea Michele’s jaw couldn’t help but hit the floor when Hudson stepped out to present an award in this sexy Alexander McQueen gown. Is it me, or is Kate looking better with age?
The Impossible actress channeled old Hollywood glamor in this Zac Posen gown. By far Watts’ best look this awards season. Hair perfectly suited the gown’s vintage vibe.
The Downton Abbey star was ready for fashion battle in this gold-and-white Alexandre Vauthier dress. The high collar gold detailing is breathtaking. It’s couture armor.
This fiery dress was a custom-made Atelier Versace. It’s on the simpler side, but it’s exquisite. The gathering is subtle and understated but effective.
I applaud risks and Lucy Liu chose wisely in this gorgeous floral print Carlina Herrera dress. She’s Gone With The Wind fabulous. Love the trendy side-braid as well.
Another crimson simple dress, but the French actress makes a stylish stunning statement in this Christian Dior strapless frock. Wise decision to go the simple route at the Globes after the her gorgeous floral appliqué black Zuhair Murad dress she wore at the 2013 Critics’ Choice Awards
Don’t think the hair or makeup worked, but the dress is so breathtaking, I had to include it here. Doesn’t this embellished gold Monique Lhuillier gown look like something Charlize Theron would’ve worn in Snow White and the Huntsman. Her wardrobe in that film was BEYOND.
The Smash actress definitely amped up the sex factor in this outfit. McPhee’s “globes” were on display in her black Theyskens’ Theory gown. The shoes are a little streetwalker, but overall… the styling worked.
The 31-year-old actress was quintessential Hollywood glamor in this melon silk Oscar de la Renta gown. A safe traditional choice, but it works on the stunning Alba.
Both Chastain and Hathaway walked away as winners at the ceremony, but came up short on my list. I like the color of Jessica’s Calvin Klein dress, but the hairstyle really doesn’t complement her, IMHO. The middle part looks like she’s either thinning or greying there, don’t you think?
This is the second time in a couple of days Anne opted for a very simple gown with no neck jewelry. Hopefully, she amps up the style factor for upcoming awards. The white Chanel is beautiful, but a tad boring.
With regards to Bell, I had to give her props for picking this Jenny Packham dress. Who says you can’t be über fashionable while extremely preggers.
