After four years of hosting 1 Girl 5 Gays, host Aliya-Jasmine Sovani has decided to step down and a new “1 Girl” has just been announced. Aliya-Jasmine just made the following big announcement:
“Hey everyone, I have very exciting news and it’s finally official so I’m stoked to share it with all of you. After four amazing years of hosting 1G5G on MTV and Logo, and meeting some of my best friends, hearing some of the craziest stories, being totally embarrassed on TV, laughing more than I have ever laughed, and crying more than I ever thought I would on TV, most of all being welcomed into a community that I will always stand by and stand up for. I am finally ready to pass on the torch as the “One Girl.” I’m really excited, I’m working on a passion project for MTV that I’m gonna be hosting and producing on and I’m really excited to fill you all in on that, it’s coming very very soon.
But in the meantime, from myself and the producers of 1G5G, the amazing crew behind the scenes, and all of my boys, do not miss the next three weeks as we countdown to my goodbye show and announce the brand new host of 1 Girl 5 Gays. Feel free to hit me up on Twitter @aliyajasmine and let me know what you think. I’ll always be there sending you lots of love. And from the bottom of my heart, thank you all for supporting our little Canadian show that made a loud North American statement, and told the world that no matter what you are in terms of race or gender, religion, ethnicity or sexual preference, the truth of humanity is that love is love is love. And remember to ask yourself, ‘Who’d you rather?’”
Such a heartfelt message! I always loved her as the host. I’m certain there are going to be lots of tears on the finale night. You can catch her final three shows starting the week of January 28. Find out who the new host is below.

The new host of 1G5G is Lauren Collins. You might remember the 26-year old Canadian actress from her role as Paige Michalchuk on Degrassi: The Next Generation. What do you think about the news and the replacement? SHare your thoughts below.

Even though I will miss Aliya Jasmine, who I think is an unbelievably great host (and a NATIONAL TREASURE), I think Paige will grow on me. If she throws out a “Hun” or two it certainly won’t hurt.
And btw, Josh’s comment about Joey Jeremiah made me LOL

She probably turned 30 so they need to get her off the MTV airwaves STAT!
And that pic on top is hilarious. I hope they fired the art director who green lit an arab woman holding a bomb on her chest.

Turning 30 is not a valid excuse. Daryn Jones was 34 when he left MTV.
Like someone else said, only time will tell whether Lauren will be a good fit for the show.

He`s also not a woman.
Welcome to the real, sexist, ageist world.

That bitch bicurious cheerleader who got raped? Really? Ugh, i dunno. The thing about AJ is that she’s a professional meaning she studied broadcast communications and she’s very personable. An actress may be personable and talkative but can she carry a show? I’ll check it out to see how she does, but honestly i stopped watching the show. The “average” guys aren’t average anymore so it’s lost the purpose of the show.

Dear Aliyah-Jasmine,
Life is not a static proposition, this is a fact. But I will never view 1G5G the same way ever again. You are the “star” of 1G5G regardless, and the boys are your supporting cast. Anyone who starts watching 1G5G after you depart will never know what they missed. You brought honesty, and emotion to a show that could have easily failed. Watching you being surprised or embarrassed was something no one could “stage”. You will be sooooo missed. I WISH YOU THE BEST IN ALL YOU DO. STRAY in Baltimore, USA

OdetoFear, you are so spot on these guys are so full of themselves it’s sickening. They really should scrape all of them and get some fresh “average” guys, the way the show was meant to be. The current cast is the biggest bunch of pretentious bleached assholes I have ever seen. Look at the in the first few episodes and look at them now. And whats this shit of putting up their Twitter addresses at the top of their drawings? AJ seemed to be the only one who wasn’t affected by her 15 minutes of fame, and SHE leaves? WTF?

I just finished watching the final Aliya Jasmine show. I really think she made this show. I am sorry to see her go and have to say that I am not impressed with Lauren. I think it will totally change the dynamics of the show….I will give her the benefit of the doubt but from the sample they showed I wasn’t connecting with her like Aliya….Hope the show survives.

1G5G will not be the same without AJ, but I wish her well. No offence to Lauren, but 1G5G is not the venue for her. If they wanted a Degrassi girl, Stacey Farber would have been a better choice. I echo the other comments that need to wipe the slate and get new gays. I like 1 Girl 5 Gays, not 1 Girl 5 Celebrities.
